Conversations with Grandfather by Changes Horses

A knock on the door startled and woke him. Who could that be? He sat up. Groggy, he stumbled half-conscious to the kitchen door and peered out the window. It was Grandfather, wearing his black cowboy hat, ablue denim shirt, and jeans.
“Grandfather, it’s so good to see you. Come in.”
“Thank you, my son.”
He led Grandfather into the living room.
“So, how have you been?” Grandfather said.
“Oh, I’ve been thinking too much, which is never a good thing for me.”
“Nor for anyone,” Grandfather said and seated himself in the leather chair set near the fire place. “What the mind tries to do is to anticipate outcomes, even control them.”
“That’s right. How did you know that?”
“Because to a certain degree, all minds are the same. What you need to know is that the only reality for you, or for anyone, is in the moment. By worrying and trying to anticipate outcomes, you become lostbetween the worlds.”
He sat perched on the edge of the sofa. “But how can I stop it, Grandfather?”
“We have to anchor you in the moment to feel the immediacy of love that the universe has for you. Fear can only exist when individuals doubt the love the universe has for them. You need to know that the creator loves you and will respond to your every thought and intention. What you’re doing is giving your power away to your mind. The mind feels threatened by anything it cannot grasp, and it cannot grasp the void.”
“What is the void?”
“The void is limitless opportunities, but it is also chaos. It swirls around people like smoke inside of a glass globe, but what you need to know is that the present is the only safety from the void, yet most people donot live in the moment. They yearn backward to the past or reach into the future because they are not happy in the moment.”
“So how can I come more into the moment?”
“I’ve explained to you once before, find something to have gratitude for in every moment you are alive. But for you, right now, with this existential anxiety that is stalking you, we can add an additional exercise. Doing breath work will help because when you get stressed, your breathing becomes shallow.”
“I need to take deep breaths?”
“Yes, take a few minutes in the morning and evening to do this. Repeat breathing in deeply with the spirit that moves through all things and then slowly release your breath.”
“Thank you, Grandfather,” he said and placed his hands on either side of his head. “I think the people I’m working for are starting to get to me.”
“As you walk through this earth plane, honor is all there is. But you are surrounded with people whose words mean nothing. They are like the wind. People are going to do what they’re going to do out of their ownkarma and soul’s evolution. What we have to do is lift you up like the eagle, to come up in consciousness, to fly up over your life and the mundane to see that these people mean nothing to you. And since we know that they are disconnected from their hearts, why do you even care what their opinion is of you?”
“Yes. I understand what you’re saying.”
“They can’t take away anything that matters to you. The only thing that they can take is pieces of paper with the faces of dead presidents on them. The spirit that runs through all things can replace that tenfold. Soright now, this is an invitation from your higher self to understand that you’re giving your serenity away to these strangers. You’re gifting them with your peace of mind. You’re saying, ‘I don’t really know you that well, but what I do know, I don’t really like, but you can take my serenity.'”
The young warrior broke into laughter. “You’re right, Grandfather. I am doing that.”
“It’s good to hear you laugh, but do you see this is what you’re doing?”
“Yes. You’re absolutely right.”
“So, does that sound like a good plan to you?”
“No, and I understand what you’re saying.”
“Good.”
